What is EN 1902-1 : 2018
EN 1092-1 : 2018 was developed by Technical Committee CEN/TC 74 “Flanges and their joints,” and is organized by DIN. This European Standard specifies the requirements for circular steel flanges in the PN designations PN 2.5 to PN 400, with nominal sizes ranging from DN 10 to DN 4000. It covers the types of flanges and their facings, dimensions, tolerances, threading, bolt sizes, flange jointing face surface finish, marking, materials, pressure/temperature ratings, and approximate flange masses.

Which countries are required to adopt the EN1902-1 standard?
CEN members include the national standards bodies of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
Key differences between EN 1092-1 and ISO 7005-1.
Item | ISO 7005-1 | EN 1092-1 |
Standard Content | Includes both original DIN and ANSI/ASME flanges | Contains only PN-based flanges |
ANSI/ASME Flanges | Included | Covered by EN 1759 series standards |
Technical Requirements | Follows original DIN flange requirements | Revised technical requirements for DIN flanges |
Mating Dimensions, Flange and Facing Types | Compatible with ISO 7005-1 | Remains compatible but with differences: |
p/T Ratings | Permits temperatures exceeding PN value | Limits temperatures to PN value; faster pressure reduction with rising temperature |
PN Range | PN 2.5 to PN 40 | Includes flanges up to PN 400 |
Types of steel flanges and collars
Type No & Description
- Type 1 : Plate flange for welding
- Type 2 : Loose plate flange with weld-on plate collar or for lapped pipe end
- Type 4 : Loose plate flange with weld-neck collar
- Type 5 : Blind flange
- Type 11 : Weld-neck flange
- Type 12 : Hubbed slip-on flange for welding
- Type 13 : Hubbed threaded flange
- Type 21 a : Integral flange
- Type 32 b : Weld-on plate collar
- Type 33 a, b : Lapped pipe end
- Type 34 b : Weld-neck collar
- Type 35 b : Weldring neck
- Type 36 b : Pressed collar with long neck
- Type 37 b : Pressed collar
Type numbers are non-consecutive to allow for future additions.
Items marked with ‘a’ are integral parts of pressure equipment or components.
Items marked with ‘b’ are used with type 02 flanges (32, 33, 35, 36, 37) and type 04 flanges (34).
Flange facing types
Type & Description
- a) Type A Flat face
- b) Type B Raised face (B1 and B2)
- c) Type C Tongue
- d) Type D Groove
- e) Type E Spigot
- f) Type F Recess
- g) Type G O-ring spigot
- h) Type H O-ring groove
Notes:
The transition from the edge of the raised face to the flange face can be by radius or chamfer for types B, D, F, and G only.
B1 and B2 are variations of raised face (Type B) for different applications.
For dimensions of flange facings, refer to Figure 4 and Table 8.
BS EN -1092-1-2018 Marking
EXAMPLE 1 XXX/EN 1092–1/11/DN 150/PN 40/P265GH/A2345:
Manufacturer’s name or trade mark/Standard/flange/collar type number/DN/PN designation/(wall thickness (S), if not according to this European Standard)/grade of the material/heat number
If a part is too small to enable all the markings required then the minimum marking required shall be:
— flange/collar manufacturer’s name or trade mark;
— letters “EN”;
— PN designation, e.g. PN 40;
— either the name or the number or the grade of the material;
— heat number of melt and/or suitable identification, such as code number, for the traceability.
