ASME B36.10M SCH 160 Pipe Dimension

ASME B36.10M is a standard for steel pipes, and Sch 160 refers to the pipe’s wall thickness schedule. Sch 160 pipes have very thick walls, making them suitable for extremely high-pressure applications.

Sch 160 pipes are primarily used in high-pressure systems, such as high-pressure steam lines, chemical processing systems, power plants, and heavy industrial piping. They are designed for environments where superior pressure resistance and durability are crucial.

Sch 160 pipes can be welded. Due to their thick walls, welding is commonly used in Sch 160 pipe installations, ensuring a strong and durable connection.

Sch 160 pipes are highly suitable for both high-pressure and high-temperature environments. However, for very high-temperature applications, using materials like stainless steel or alloy steel is recommended to maintain performance under extreme heat.

The right size for Sch 160 pipe should be chosen based on the system’s pressure requirements, temperature, and the type of fluid being carried. It is recommended to consult SSM and refer to ASME standards for accurate sizing.

In addition to ASME B36.10M, Sch 160 pipes may also comply with other international standards like ASTM A106, ASTM A53, and similar standards depending on the manufacturer and specific application needs.
