What is AWWA C207

AWWA C207 is a standard developed by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) that covers steel ring flanges, blind flanges, and companion flanges for waterworks service. These flanges are typically used in low-pressure water systems, such as municipal water distribution networks, and are designed to meet the specific needs of the water industry.

Size: 4-144#

Types:

Steel-ring flanges, Class B (86 psi)  Blind-flanges, Class B (86 psi)  Steel-hub flanges, Class D (175–150 psi)
Steel-ring flanges, Class D (175–150 psi) Blind-flanges, Class D (175–150 psi) Steel-hub flanges, Class E (275 psi)
Steel-ring flanges, Class E (275 psi) Blind-flanges, Class E (275 psi)
Steel-ring flanges, Class F(300 psi) Blind-flanges, Class F(300 psi)

MATERIALS

Materials shall comply with the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and other federal regulations for water systems as applicable.

AWWA C207 flanges are typically made from carbon steel suitable for waterworks applications.

Manufacturing Methods

Flanges shall be made from seamless forgings, cut from plate as a single piece, welded bar rings, or segmented and welded plates.
Flange materials. Steel plate, bar, and forgings used in the manufacture of flanges shall meet the following requirements:

  • 1. Specified minimum tensile strength = 50,000 psi (345 MPa).
  • 2. Specified minimum yield strength = 32,000 psi (221 MPa).
  • 3. Elongation, 2-in. (50-mm) gauge length (minimum) = 18 percent, or 8-in. (200-mm) gauge length (minimum) = 14 percent.
  • 4. Carbon (maximum) = 0.35 percent.
  • 5. Phosphorus (maximum) = 0.04 percent.
  • 6. Sulfur (maximum) = 0.05 percent.

MARKING

Flanges shall be impression stamped with the size and name or trademark of the manufacturer and with the AWWA class as defined in flange dimensions table.

AWWA C207 flanges are commonly used in potable water systems, wastewater treatment plants, and other low-pressure waterworks applications.

Most AWWA C207 flanges have a flat face, but raised face options are also available for specific applications.

No, AWWA C207 flanges are designed for low-pressure applications with maximum ratings up to 300 psi, depending on the class.

AWWA C207 flanges have different design criteria and pressure ratings compared to ASME flanges, so they are not always directly compatible. Always consult the specific standards and application requirements.
