Comparison between ASTM B622 and ASTM B619 Hastelloy Pipes
Characteristic | Seamless Pipe | Welded Pipe |
Manufacturing Process | Made from extruding, drawing, or spinning solid billets | Made by rolling and welding metal sheets or coils |
Weld Seam | No weld seam | Contains longitudinal or spiral weld seam |
Mechanical Properties | Generally have higher strength and uniformity | Mechanical properties may be slightly lower, especially at the weld seam |
Corrosion Resistance | Excellent corrosion resistance, no issues from welds | Weld seam can be a weak point in corrosive environments |
Dimensional Tolerance | Tighter and more uniform tolerances | Tolerances may be slightly larger, especially at the weld area |
Internal Surface Quality | Typically smooth with no weld-related defects | Weld seam may cause uneven surface or defects |
Advantages and Disadvantages of ASTM B622 Hastelloy Pipes
Advantages: Hastelloy seamless pipes have no welds, which reduces the risk of welding defects and improves the overall strength and durability of the material. The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing and reducing media. It can maintain good mechanical properties under high-temperature conditions.
Disadvantages: It contains many precious alloying elements and costs relatively high. Due to the particularity and high cost of Hastelloy alloys, the supply of these pipes in the market may be limited, and some specifications of products may require a longer delivery time.
