Manufacturing & Tolerance Requirements
Manufacturing Methods
Seamless pipes are manufactured using hot extrusion, cold working, and heat treatment. Plates or strips are formed into cylindrical shapes using processes like roll forming, welding, and post-weld heat treatment to produce welded pipes.

Lengths
The length of the pipes shall be as specified in the purchase order. Common lengths are single random (17-24 feet) and double random (38-40 feet), but custom lengths can also be ordered.
Pipes may also be supplied in cut lengths with a permissible variation of +1/8 inch (3.2 mm) and -0.
Advantages and Disadvantages of ASTM A790
Advantages:
Duplex and super duplex stainless steels have high yield strength and excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion. They also have good toughness and ductility at both low and high temperatures, making them suitable for various applications. The combination of high strength and corrosion resistance can save on materials and extend service life, reducing overall costs.
Disadvantages:
Although these stainless steels offer long-term cost-effectiveness, their initial cost may be higher than that of standard grades. Additionally, they can become prone to embrittlement at temperatures above 300°C due to the formation of intermetallic phases. Furthermore, the production process for duplex and super duplex stainless steels can be more complex and expensive compared to that of standard austenitic or ferritic stainless steel.
