ASME B16.5 A182 F310 Flange

ASME B16.5 A182 F310 flange is a flange standard specified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), which includes dimensions, pressure classes (Class 150–2500), tolerances, and manufacturing requirements. The A182 F310 flange is made from high chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel (containing 25% Cr and 20% Ni), designed to withstand extreme high-temperature oxidation and corrosion environments. It is suitable for long-term high temperatures (≤1150°C) and sulfur/carbon-based media in various industrial applications.

Testing & Certification

Mandatory Tests:

  • Chemical composition analysis (Cr/Ni content).
  • High-temperature oxidation test (ASTM G54).
  • Intergranular corrosion test (ASTM A262 Practice E).

Certification Standards:

  • ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessel Code).
  • EN 10204 3.1 material certificate.

Usage Notes

Welding Process:

  • Welding Material: Recommended ER310 or ENiCrFe-3 electrodes.
  • Preheat/Interpass Temperature: 150–250°C (to prevent thermal cracking).
  • Post-Weld Treatment: No solution heat treatment required, but avoid slow cooling in the 500–800°C range (to prevent sigma phase precipitation).

Machining Requirements:

  • Cutting: Use carbide tools, with low-speed machining.
  • Cold Bending: Preheat to above 300°C to prevent cracking.

Typical Applications

  • Petrochemical: Cracking furnace tubes, reforming units, high-temperature reactors.
  • Power Industry: Boiler burners, high-temperature steam pipelines.
  • Heat Treatment Equipment: Carburizing furnaces, annealing furnace internal components.
  • Glass Manufacturing: High-temperature parts for furnaces.

More Information about ASME B16.5 A182 F310 Flange

  • ASME B16.5: A standard for flanges established by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), defining flange dimensions, pressure classes (Class 150–2500), tolerances, and manufacturing requirements.
  • ASTM A182 F310: A high chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel (25% Cr, 20% Ni) designed for extreme high-temperature oxidation and corrosion environments, suitable for long-term high temperatures (≤1150°C) and sulfur/carbon-based media.

Advantages

  • High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance: Stable below 1150°C, superior to common stainless steels (like 304/316) in oxidation resistance.
  • Sulfur Corrosion Resistance: Suitable for sulfur-rich oil and gas, refinery cracking units.
  • Carbon Diffusion Resistance: Excellent performance in carburizing gas environments (e.g., CO).

FAQ

  •  F310S is the low-carbon version (C≤0.08%), offering better weldability, but slightly lower high-temperature strength.
  • Not recommended! F310 has weak resistance to chloride ion pitting corrosion, requiring use of super austenitic steels (254SMO) or duplex steels (F51) instead.
  • Higher temperature (>1150°C): Inconel 601/625.
  • High sulfur environments: Incoloy 800H.
